EXB events: An exclusive tour with Sandra Mujinga

Join artist Sandra Mujinga for an up-close look at her standout exhibition, I Build My Skin With Rocks at the Hamburger Bahnhof.

Sandra Mujinga’s latest video installation rises like a vast black monolith out of the main hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof.

The architectural installation is an incongruous sight that contrasts sharply with the subtle content of the film work it presents. I Build My Skin With Rocks is an elusive and deceptive work that finds ways to evade the ‘gaze’ by becoming invisible through camouflage and nocturnality.

Visitors will be able to meet the artist and the curator, and get an exclusive tour of her installation. Drinks will be served afterwards, and you’ll get the chance to speak directly with them both. The work of the Congolese-Norwegian artist is driven by a profound focus in the body – and its perceived absence.

Merging animal survival strategies with posthumanist thought, Afro-futurism and the sci-fi concept of ‘world-building’, the artist has become the focus of international attention. Last year, her otherworldly ghost sculptures – a version of which were shown at the Hamburger Bahnhof in 2021 – were one of the standout presentations at the 59th Venice Biennale.
